12 principles

Our editorial standards in detail

The 12 chapters below define how every page on Betsquare UK is researched, written, fact-checked, published and updated.

Chapter 01 / 12

Editorial independence

Betsquare UK is an independent casino comparison site. Every editorial decision is made by the editorial team, never by commercial partners.

Our editorial team is fully separated from the commercial side of the business. Affiliate agreements, advertising deals and partnerships never influence our scores, rankings or recommendations. A high commission does not earn a casino a better review, and a low or missing commission never causes a lower score.

When a casino fails to meet our quality standards we either lower its score or exclude it from our UK casino rankings, regardless of any commercial interests. Our editor in chief has the final say on every editorial decision and is the single point of contact for editorial complaints.

What this means for you

Our top lists and reviews are never for sale. What you read is what our editors genuinely think after their own research and testing.

Chapter 02 / 12

Review methodology

Every casino review follows a standardised 9-step process. Each step has its own sub-score and together they form the final rating.

Every reviewer is required to open a real account, make at least one deposit and play on both desktop and mobile. We actually test withdrawals, contact customer support and verify that bonus terms in practice match what is promised on site.

  • Licence and player safety (most heavily weighted criterion)
  • Game library and game variety (slots, live casino, table games)
  • Software providers and game quality
  • Bonus offer, terms and fairness
  • Available payment methods and limits
  • Withdrawal speed (real test transactions)
  • Mobile experience and app performance
  • Customer support (response time and answer quality)
  • Responsible gambling tools and player protection
Chapter 03 / 12

Fact-checking and quality control

No page goes live without a second pair of eyes. Every review and guide is independently fact-checked.

Our fact-checkers verify figures, RTP percentages, licence numbers, bonus terms and payout times against primary sources. When in doubt, we contact the operator or payment provider directly for confirmation.

Any errors we discover are corrected within 48 hours and documented in the page-history block at the bottom of each page. Material corrections are flagged explicitly so readers can always see what changed and why.

Chapter 04 / 12

Sources and transparency

We work exclusively with primary and verified secondary sources. Every source is listed at the bottom of the relevant page.

Each page lists only the sources actually consulted for that topic. A PayPal casinos guide links to the official PayPal documentation, while a bonus guide refers to the UKGC's bonus rules. We never use a single generic source list across every page.

  • Official operator websites and bonus terms
  • Payment providers such as PayPal, Skrill, Trustly and Pay by Phone
  • Game studios (Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, Play'n GO, Evolution and others)
  • UK Gambling Commission, GamCare and GAMSTOP
  • Internationally recognised regulators (MGA, GCB, AGCO)
  • Independent testing labs such as eCOGRA and iTech Labs
Chapter 05 / 12

Author expertise

Our editorial team is made up of experienced casino experts, journalists and analysts with demonstrable industry knowledge.

Reviews are only written by editors with proven expertise in online casinos, slots, payment methods or regulation. Every author page lists a public profile, background and area of specialism. You can meet the team on our About Betsquare UK page.

New editors go through an internal onboarding programme covering our methodology, source policy and fact-checking procedures in detail. They can only publish independently after a supervised review period.

Chapter 06 / 12

Updates and corrections

The UK gambling market changes fast. Licences, bonus terms and payment methods can change overnight.

Every page is fully reviewed at least every six months. When the market changes significantly, when the UKGC issues new rules or when an operator makes a major update, we publish an interim update straight away.

The latest update date is always visible at the top of the page and inside the page-history block at the bottom. Material changes are described in detail so you know exactly what was updated.

Chapter 07 / 12

Commercial transparency

Betsquare UK earns income via affiliate links. We are always open about this and keep commerce strictly separate from editorial.

If you create an account at a casino through a link on Betsquare, we may receive a commission. This never costs you anything extra and it never affects the bonus you receive. Every page with affiliate links carries a clear disclaimer near the top.

We only work with casinos holding a valid UK Gambling Commission licence. Casinos that fail our editorial checks are never promoted, even if commercial opportunities exist.

Chapter 08 / 12

Responsible gambling

Entertainment should never come at the cost of financial or mental health. Safer gambling is built into every review.

On every page we highlight the risks of gambling and link to GamCare, the National Gambling Helpline and GAMSTOP. Casinos are actively scored on the safer-gambling tools they offer: deposit limits, time-out periods, reality checks and self-exclusion.

Operators that fall short on these tools automatically receive a lower final score, regardless of their other strengths. Sites that are not connected to GAMSTOP are only discussed in an educational context and never recommended.

Need support?

If you are worried about your gambling or someone close to you, contact GamCare on 0808 8020 133 (free, 24/7) for confidential support.

Chapter 09 / 12

How rankings are built

Our top-10 lists are not assembled at random. Every ranking is based on a weighted final score from our methodology.

Licence and player safety carry the most weight. A casino without a valid UKGC licence will never appear in our top-10, no matter how generous its bonus. After that come withdrawal speed, bonus terms, game library and overall user experience as the most important factors.

When two casinos score evenly we use secondary criteria: real player feedback, recent complaints filed with regulators and how openly the operator communicates about changes. Rankings are reviewed at least monthly.

Chapter 10 / 12

Verifying bonuses and terms

Bonuses are a key reason to pick a casino. We check every offer against the official terms and conditions.

Outdated or misleading bonus information is never published. Any changes we spot are pushed through immediately. When terms are unfair (for example wagering requirements of 60x or higher), we say so explicitly and recommend against the offer.

  • Bonus amount and match percentage
  • Wagering requirements and game contributions
  • Maximum cashout from a bonus
  • Restricted games and contribution percentages
  • Expiry date and validity period
  • Minimum deposit and qualifying payment methods
Chapter 11 / 12

Complaints and disputes

Have a dispute with a casino we recommended? We help where we can.

We can't resolve disputes between you and a casino directly, but we take every complaint about a recommended operator very seriously. Patterns of complaints can lead to a lower score or removal from our recommendations.

For formal disputes we point you to the UK Gambling Commission, the operator's complaints procedure or an independent ADR provider such as IBAS or eCOGRA.

Chapter 12 / 12

Regulatory compliance

Betsquare UK complies with the Gambling Act 2005 and current UKGC advertising codes (CAP/BCAP).

Our content is intended only for adults aged 18 and over. We never promote casinos that do not hold a valid UK Gambling Commission licence outside an educational context, and our advertising follows UKGC, ASA and Betting and Gaming Council guidance for safer gambling messaging.

Spot something we should fix?

We take every correction request seriously and update affected pages within 48 hours where appropriate. Material changes are logged in the page-history block at the bottom of each article.
